Biology Direct considers original research articles, reviews and hypotheses (see below). Subjects covered can include any aspect of molecular, cellular, organismal or population biology, as well as methods, theoretical and computational biology, comparative biology, and evolution.

Research: reports of original research results.
Reviews: critical discussions of any subject within the scope of the journal.
Hypotheses: articles presenting an untested original hypothesis backed, largely, by previously published results but, possibly, in part, by new evidence as well.
Biology Direct is published by BioMed Central, the Open Access publisher.
